On August 31, 2020, Facebook removed a network of Facebook and Instagram pages and accounts linked to the American strategic communications firm CLS Strategies for having engaged in coordinated “inauthentic” behavior. In its report, Facebook stated that these accounts violated its policy against foreign interference, specifying that their activity was centered on Venezuela, Mexico and Bolivia. The platform shared the data related to CLS Strategies’ activity with the Stanford Internet Observatory, which in turn produced an open-access report.
